Loreen Niewenhuis was born in Michigan and has lived there most of her life. She got a Bachelor of Science degree from Calvin College, then a Master of Science from Wayne State University. She has worked in various aspects of the science fields including basic animal research, hospital laboratories, and a bone marrow transplant lab.
She went on to get her Master of Fine Arts in Fiction Writing from Spalding University. Her short fiction has appeared in a variety of publications. She is currently putting the finishing touches on her first novel TUMOR BOARD and is beginning a new novel set in Atlanta.

Her current project is writing a book proposal for the adventure she will undertake in 2009: walking around the perimeter of Lake Michigan.
